The original receipt printer, impact (dot matrix) printers are excellent solutions for areas where there is heat and noise such as kitchens and bars. These units are commonly used as kitchen printers due to the papers resistance to heat. They are noisier than thermal units so they are more likely to alarm a bar tender or kitchen cook to the fact that a receipt is being printed with an order. Serial or parallel are the most common interface options.
